Attorney and former Municipal Court Prosecutor Mark Vicknair has advanced to a run off against Harry Cantrell for Magistrate Jude. The election will be held on November 16.

Mr. Vicknair has devoted his legal career to serving his fellow New Orleanians.  As a Prosecutor in Orleans Parish Municipal Court he directed domestic violence prosecutions for all four sections of Municipal Court. As a Public Defender in Juvenile Court and Criminal Court he litigated over 100 cases, including 25 jury trials and over 500 motionhearings. In Magistrate Court, he has conducted over 35,000 bond hearings.

More recently, Mark worked as an attorney at Catholic Charities for Project S.A.V.E. where he obtained temporary restraining orders and protective orders for victims of domestic violence, and has served on the Mayor's Domestic Violence Advisory Committee.  Currently, Mark is a successful private practitioner where he manages an extensive and diverse caseload in Criminal, Juvenile, Municipal, and Traffic Court. Mark has earned a reputation for maintaining the highest level of professionalism while zealously advocating for his clients.

Mark Vicknair and FamilyVicknair states: “I am running because I realize the importance of the Magistrate Court in our criminal justice system. Setting bonds on accused criminal defendants at their first point of contact with our courts is a major responsibility in a community beleaguered by violence. As a champion on behalf of abused women and children, and as a newlywed who recently welcomed my beautiful wife and three young children into my life, I am more dedicated than ever to making the city we love a safer and better place to raise our families.”

A lifelong New Orleanian and graduate of John Curtis High School and Tulane University, Mark Vicknair received his Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU and was admitted to the Bar in 1994.

Mark is the immediate past president of the Orleans Chapter of the Alliance for Good Government, is a graduate of the Institute of Politics Fellows Program, serves on the board of the NORD Crescent City Lights Theater, and has been a sponsor and volunteer coach of The Termites -- a 5-6 year old soccer team at Carrolton Boosters. He is married to attorney Mindy Brickman and together they raise her three young children.
